We had already talked about in this article, in which the Tmb-Geie company, which manages the operation of Mont Blanc Tunnel, announced its total closure. The tunnel has been inaccessible to traffic since Monday, September 2 for more than three months for major maintenance works: during this period, maintenance work of large sections of the road deck and the ceiling will be carried out, which will allow two 300m sections of the tunnel to be renovated.

The Mont Blanc tunnel, which is 11.6 kilometres long, consists of a single gallery with two-way traffic that connects Courmayeur, in Valle d’Aosta, to Chamonix, in the French department of Haute-Savoie. Inconveniences for truck drivers are expected, as the tunnel represents one of the most important road links between France and Italy

The alternative routes to the tunnel are: the Great St Bernard tunnel to go to Switzerland or to the French areas bordering Switzerland, and the Frejus tunnel to go to the south-east side of Mont Blanc.
